"Moonlight and Roses" I began this painting in earth tones and ancient trails...it was no go. This painting did not want to become a buffalo hunter, or live in the desert. I fought the painting and fought the painting until I allowed it to become what it wanted to be! It wanted to sing! Artists are familiar with their muse, sometimes we ignore her, but it pays to listen instead. Just be patient and let the painting tell you what it wants to be. The process becomes much easier. Now if I can just take my advice on the next one!
Remember that old song, Dark Moon? Bonnie Guitar sang it many years ago. I got to meet her in person in Soap Lake, WA where she lived, she sang Dark Moon. I'll never forget it. It was that song that inspired the dark moon in this painting. The poor old moon! He feels like crying....all his stars have shrunk, you can barely see them shining in the sky. There is so much pollution in the air, he wishes he could make it go away so his stars could shine the way they should! The horse is singing to him, trying to comfort him for the moon is very sad. I sure hope it works and the moon cheers up soon. Donna
